Aradel Holdings just cracked through a price level that investors across the Nigerian Exchange had been watching for several weeks.

The integrated oil and gas company fell below ₦1,400 on October 20, shedding over ₦100 from its opening price in a single trading session.

Sellers flooded the session with more than 23,000 units, one of the heaviest single-day volumes the stock has attracted in recent weeks.

The move extends a volatile stretch for one of the Nigerian Exchange’s most closely watched and heavily traded energy names.

Aradel stock slides ₦100 as selling pressure accelerates on NGX

The NGX Daily Official List for October 20 showed Aradel opening at ₦1,499.90 and closing the session at ₦1,399.00 per share.

That ₦100.90 intraday drop translates to a 6.7% decline within a single trading session, based on the exchange’s published data.

The 23,656 units that changed hands during the session signaled clear conviction among sellers rather than a handful of stray transactions.

Aradel’s close at ₦1,399 marked the second time in three weeks the stock has broken below the ₦1,400 level, following a dip to ₦1,377 on October 2.

The selloff continued a broader pattern on the Nigerian Exchange, which shed roughly ₦530 billion in market value over five sessions ending October 16.

Banking stocks bore the heaviest losses during that stretch, while oil and gas names initially bucked the trend before turning sharply lower.

David Adonri, vice president of Highcap Securities, noted that investors had been redirecting capital toward the Dangote Refinery initial public offering, pressuring prices across the secondary market before the flow subsided, ThisDay reported.

The oil and gas sector has been the most volatile corner of the NGX throughout October, bouncing between sharp rally attempts and equally steep drawdowns across trading sessions.

Aradel’s 2026 rally from ₦670 to ₦2,024 gives sellers plenty to lock in

Aradel began 2026 trading at approximately ₦670 and reached an all-time high of ₦2,024 in April, more than tripling early investors’ capital at its peak.

Nairametrics reported a year-to-date gain of 123.87% as of October 16, but the further decline on October 20 narrowed that gain to roughly 109% from the January starting price of about ₦670.

The company’s first-quarter 2026 results helped fuel the earlier rally, showing revenue climbing 264.5% to ₦728.52 billion year-over-year.

Profit after tax surged to ₦120.29 billion from ₦34.20 billion in the corresponding period a year earlier, BusinessDay reported.

CEO Adegbite Falade explained the earnings surge by noting that recently acquired businesses were consolidated into the group’s financial statements for the first time, according to the company’s first-quarter 2026 results reported by BusinessDay.

Aradel completed its acquisition of a 40% equity interest in ND Western Limited at the end of 2025, the company disclosed in its results.

In the first half of 2026, the company generated ₦975.61 billion in operating cash flow after tax payments, Nairametrics reported, reinforcing the case for sustainable growth.

However, Dangote’s expansion into Ethiopian fertilizer operations underscores broader competition for the same pool of Nigerian and pan-African investor capital.

Broker targets still see upside despite Aradel’s extended pullback

Four brokerage firms carried positive recommendations on Aradel in the September and October consensus reviews compiled and published by Nairametrics.

CardinalStone Research set a 12-month target of ₦2,120.18 in July 2026, implying more than 50% upside from ₦1,399.

The broader consensus target averaged ₦2,557.09 in October, suggesting roughly 83% potential upside from the latest closing price, Nairametrics reported.

The growing gap between Aradel’s share price and analyst targets has raised questions about whether value buyers will step in soon.

Insider activity has sent mixed signals, with NGX filings showing a senior Aradel employee selling more than 3.5 million shares at ₦1,282.50 in June.

Other staff members purchased smaller lots around the same period, NGX filings showed, suggesting not all insiders view the current price as a reason to exit.
