Unilever Nigeria’s N32.2bn profit rewrites its five-year streak

Five years ago, Unilever Nigeria posted N3.4 billion in after-tax profit, a modest figure for one of the country’s oldest manufacturers. Since then, every single financial year has delivered a higher number than the one before it.

The 2025 result broke the pattern wide open. After-tax profit landed at N32.2 billion, more than double the N15.1 billion earned twelve months earlier. For shareholders who have tracked this stock through naira devaluation, inflation, and supply chain disruptions, the trajectory raises a pointed question.

Is this the kind of momentum that sustains itself, or is the company running into the ceiling of what Nigeria’s consumer economy can support? The latest financial data, combined with a record N18.67 billion dividend payout, suggests management is betting heavily on the former.

Unilever Nigeria’s revenue surges 43% as operating margins nearly double

The company’s audited financial statements for the year ended December 31, 2025, show revenue climbing 43% to N214.3 billion from N149.5 billion in the prior year, the company’s annual report filed on the Nigerian Exchange confirmed. Operating profit jumped to N42.2 billion from N18.4 billion, pushing the operating margin to 20% from 12% the year before.

Gross profit expanded 62% to N89.5 billion, and earnings per share rose to N5.60 from N2.64, completing a five-year climb from N0.59 in 2021, the annual report indicated.

Managing Director Tobi Adeniyi attributed the performance to a restructured operational approach and concentrated investment in the company’s strongest product lines across food, personal care, and beauty.

“Our strong full-year performance reflects a business that is sharper, faster, and built to win. This momentum stems from focusing our resources on our power brands such as Knorr, Vaseline, Close Up, Pepsodent, and Rexona.” — Tobi Adeniyi, Managing Director, Unilever Nigeria, via TheCable

How Unilever Nigeria’s food brands powered its record earnings year

The foods segment generated N127.8 billion in sales during 2025, accounting for roughly 60% of total revenue and dwarfing both the personal care division at N60.1 billion and the beauty and well-being unit at N26.3 billion, Nairametrics reported from the audited statements. Domestic sales made up 98.8% of the company’s total revenue, underscoring its deep reliance on the Nigerian consumer market.

That food-heavy revenue mix now carries additional significance following the parent company’s planned merger of its global foods division with McCormick & Company, announced on March 31, 2026, and valued at $44.8 billion globally, Nairametrics noted.

Combined with the N0.50 per share interim dividend paid during Q3 2025, full-year payouts reached N3.75 per share, up sharply from N1.25 in 2024 and N0.75 in 2023.

Unilever Nigeria’s Q1 2026 results suggest the growth streak is not slowing

Unaudited first-quarter 2026 results show continued acceleration, with revenue rising 26% to N59.2 billion, operating profit climbing 39% to N11.5 billion, and net profit reaching N7.0 billion, up 26% year-on-year, BusinessDay reported. Adeniyi described the Q1 performance as volume-driven rather than price-led, a distinction that signals genuine demand expansion rather than inflation-fueled gains.

The company’s share price had climbed to N110.00 by late April 2026, a 53% gain since the start of the year, BusinessDay noted.
